Hello all, I am writing this after a brief hiatus last week following the Chargers game. I was at the Acrisure Stadium for the home opener and thoroughly enjoyed the game, result, experience, and fall out. The Steelers and the fan base seemed to be finally coming around to some level of optimism and positivity; however, this has taken a hit over the last 3 days since their loss in Indianapolis. To once again provide some perspective I want to play a short hypothetical game:
Imagine that you fell into a coma on August 18th, 2024. This is the day after the Steelers lost a preseason game at home and not a whole lot looked good. Now, imagine you woke up today October 1st, 2024. The first question you ask me is “how are the Steelers doing?” If I were to tell you they were 3-1, with three of those games on the road, leading the AFC North by a game and by 2 games over the Bengals and Browns, have a top 4 defense, and Justin Fields just threw for 312 yards and a touchdown to go with 55 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs, and Calvin Austin III, Darnell Washington, and Pat Freiemuth have receiving touchdowns, how would you feel? I would like to bet that you would be very happy, even ecstatic that this is the current state of the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the entire NFL there are two teams that are undefeated, the Chiefs and the Vikings. The rest of the NFL has at least 1 loss and currently the Steelers are 3rd in the Conference. The Steelers also have 3 of their next 4 games at home with a legitimate shot at getting to 6-2 or 7-1. My only concern at the current juncture is the rapidly growing list of injuries on both sides of the ball. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the development of this group and the potential they have over the next quarter, half, and 3 quarters of the season. In the NFL landscape there appears to be a clear path for this team to not only make the playoffs, but make a substantial run.
Everyone needs to resist the urge to hit the panic button after this loss to the Colts. If you watched the game, the Steelers beat themselves way more than the Colts beat them on the field. Over the last two years I have often felt that our talent level would make it hard to beat the elite teams; however, this year I see a team that can beat anyone if they do not beat themselves.
Go Steelers
