Seattle (Week 17) Final Thought
Pittsburgh Steeler Fans, I truly hope that most of you are still reveling in the huge win on Sunday. The Steelers going on the road and beating a team fighting for their playoff lives shows true grit and fight. As mentioned in the initial thoughts, this game was won by all three phases; however, the offense played the most significant part by possessing the ball, running effectively, not turning the ball over, and scoring 30 points. This should be welcome and exciting to everyone in Steeler Nation.
What is bothering me is that despite this win, and despite this team’s obvious momentum going into week 18 with a chance at a playoff birth, the media landscape is obsessed with a fabricated QB controversy. Yesterday, Mark Madden made the claim that Kenny Pickett refused to be the backup in Seattle. This created a firestorm on social media and then spilled into the national media to the point that numerous outlets had picked up the threads. Let me be clear, this is a character assault on Kenny Pickett and Mike Tomlin. Mark Madden despises both of them. Mark Madden has an agenda of taking away the positive energy around the Steelers to further his narrative that Tomlin and Kenny need fired/released. It is sad. He is garbage.
As I mentioned on this week’s podcast (click above), Steelers Nation needs to be happy, excited, and positive about the last two week turnaround. Be positive about this weekends game and chances for the Steelers to make it into the playoffs. Forget the garbage of the QB controversy. It is obvious, Mason Rudolph has to start this weekend. He has done everything asked of him and more over the last 2 weeks. With that being said, it is not a mandate to bash Kenny Pickett as if this is a zero sum game. I am excited that we have 2 capable and prepared QBs this weekend and hopefully in the playoff push. You should be too.
